PNG is lossless, so a quality slider does nothing to it. That is why most browser tools barely shrink a PNG at all. Hirira reduces the colour palette instead and writes a real indexed PNG, which is how pngquant and similar desktop tools work. A screenshot or a poster typically drops by 80 percent or more with no visible change.

Questions

Does reducing the palette hurt the image?

On flat graphics, screenshots and text, almost never. On a photograph with smooth gradients you may see slight banding. Set Quality to Best to keep it untouched.

Will it still have transparency?

Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent, which is the whole reason to keep a file as PNG rather than convert it.

What if 100KB is still out of reach?

Hirira tries smaller palettes, then offers to reduce the dimensions. If none of that is acceptable, WebP keeps transparency and goes far smaller than PNG.
